In 2009 we went from a single engine to having a second by making a good deal with another York County company. This increased our ability to protect the residence of our first run by having a back up engine for those time our main engine needs to be out for maintenance or repairs. We also threw a grant were able to grow into an aerial operations side of the fire service. This company has grown with membership and our training hours were still in good standing with overall state numbers. Everyone here should be proud of what this company has accomplished in the year 2009 and look forward to even more in 2010. We held a re-organizational officers meeting on Sunday January 3rd. This was to go over the new officer's policy and give the direction for the company in 2010. The policy was sent out company wide and the officers had agreements to sign and understand what they are to do. We also discussed the forward direction for the company in 2010 with the addition of the truck. We have some different officers this year and all the duties of) those officers are defined. This includes the addition of the accountability officer and safety officer being separated. 1) Accountability tags NEED to be used EVERY time EVERY call 2) The Safety officer will be overseeing operations and making sure we have our back up safety practices in place. 3) The house siren is working again and the siren sounds as follows: cycle of 4 for fire responses and a single cycle for medical responses. 4) If you have a workers comp claim you need to contact myself AND safety officer Brad Wright so the claim gets filed and handled correctly. 5) The fire school is now charging for class no shows. All classes you want to attend MUST be approved by me. I have to sign off on the forms before they can be sent in. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!! 6) Fire Commissioners Grant has been announced and we are officially receiving $9500.00. This in not what was originally being told however state cut backs effected the total amount of everyone's grant. 7) Box alarm changes are coming again and we are going to actual driving mileage. 8) The Truck passed its aerial certification and I have the copy of the paperwork. 9) We have in house training starting in starting in station taught by Steve Lane. 10) The forestry classes were sent out as well and a sign up sheet will be placed in the dayroom also. We have secured a site for the outside practical for this class.
Officer's Reports: Assistant Chief: Attack 29 had it's ladder tips painted to comply with standards on being able to locate them from roof. Also the rescue spreaders were found to be open and subsequently destroyed the compartment light covers, please remember to fully close them after each use. Them medium length pike pole that was under the ladder is now mounted permanently to the truck. We have replaced the tool box and thinned some tools out of it. This is to ensure that the box and contents stay safe. Grants: FEMA status has not changed we are still waiting, guidelines for 2010 AFG are here and that will open in April. Other: In closing our crew we had at the A frame house call did a fantastic job and as Mark stated I hope we keep this up! Truck Chief: We took the truck on 2 calls so far, things went pretty well. Somethings that need work on are the plates, once all the plates are set let the driver/operator know. The plates will always get dropped once the truck is in place. Same thing with the pins. Who ever is riding in the OIC seat on the truck will be the one using the radio. Thank you to everyone that has helped with the truck. Fire Captain: Check's on the brush truck drivers side take down and reverse light are out, fuel is above 3/4. If you notice anything wrong or any problems with the brush truck let me know. Good job at both fire calls on Pleasant Hill, everyone did a really good job, this year is looking to be a great year already. When we get back from calls make sure you help was the piece that you were riding on. There is 2 classes scheduled SR190 and PA130 Saturday March 6th 8:30am to 5pm and march 13th and 14th 8:30am to 5pm, you will need these classes to run forest, brush or woods fires outside of Newberry Township. able to get a hold of the billing person and
they need the NPI number to get everything
started. Fire Police Captain: Would like to start off 2010 by welcoming fire police sergeant Dennis Beck to the roster, I feel he will do well as he has done in the past and will make a major contribution to the team. If anyone is interested let the fire police officers know and we will get you registered. Safety/Accountability Officers: It would seem that Pleasant Hill Rd is the place to be for the past 2-3 weeks. Having said that the Chimney Fire we had and Sunday mornings House fire went VERY well. The Truck work was done very well as well as the Engine company. In general I feel that everyone worked well together and in both cases both houses were saved from anymore damage then what could have happened. Stay safe and keep working together.
